PP 14 Doesn't Launch (1 Comment)

Has there been a solution to the difficulties of installing. launching and using PaperPort 14?

I have supposedly installed 14.5.0000 or .0001 on a Win 10 64bit system. It was not an easy chore but after pouring through this and other forums it is now installed. The checkppfolders.exe comes back with the statement that "No PaperPort folders have been detected on your computer......". I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired a couple of times each and yet the no launch and no folders detected continues.

What folders have not been created? If they are originally empty folders, could they be created manually and get things started?

Things accomplished: Uninstalled PaperPort 11, Manually went through to delete folders, cleared registry items, ran removal utility, manually double checked for folders and files, deleted "temp" folder, and then finally (supposedly) installed PP 14.

No launch is the word of the day at this point. Any new ideas?

I am using Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. I have installed Paperport 14 Professional and it appears to be working. However, I also purchased the training video for Paperport 14 but cannot get it to play. It will open and instruct me to select and click on one of the topics but none of the topics are "active" and will not open. I have tried using both Adobe Reader and Windows Media Player, I have also tried loading the training disk in a second laptop with the same results. Any suggestions?

I am unable to scan a document in Paperport 14 with Windows 7 64 Bit.  I have verified the scanner works with other software on my computer.  I have also reinstalled Paperort 14.  How can I resolve this issue?  Is there a registry cleaner for Paperport 14 that might help?

If I am in any other program (excel, word, etc.) while scanning documents, paperport keeps takes over and I have to click in excel every time a new page is scanned.  I know I am not explaining this as well as I should but it is very annoying.  I installed windows 10 a couple months back and it was fine.  Now it is doing it again.  So every time I scan a new page I have to go back to whatever program I am working in a click again.  It is hijacking everything while scanning.

Hi,

I have the following problem:
I have two sheets (A and B), with two sides, so A1, A2 B1 and B2.

A2 is a blank page.

I scan A1 and B1 and after that I turn it and scan A2 and B2.

I've activated "Blank page is job separator" BUT "Blank sheet is job separator on duplex scan" IS DEACTIVATED!

 

However, after the scan is finished it detects the blank page A2 and SEPARATES the job.
And this is exactly what shouldn't happen, as the function is deactived.
This should only happen if e.g. B1 C1 D1 is empty, so a blank-page was added as devider.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

My scanner isn't a duplex scanner.
I scan the 1st pages, turn it and press the backside-scan button.

Version is 14.5

I was scanning fine, then today all of a sudden only one page will scan.  Did something get updated?  How can I scan multiple pages at one time?

Scanning Profile Settings - Image quality (Good,Better,Best) vs DPI setting on Scan Tab

Confused on this. Without the scanner dialog option selected your able to change so-called 'image Quality' under the Output tab but it seems to have no effect on the default DPI that can be adjusted on the Scan Tab. So I guess my question is what does the File Type -> ...options -> Image quality setting (Output Tab) actually change about the file if you have a DPI setting specified on the on the Scan tab? From the verbiage in the dialog it states it is effecting 'image quality' based on the level of compression. So I guess I can understand that you have more loss at higher compression levels but that begs the question in my mind ... "Are higher DPI scans pointless if I set this to the 'Lower Image Quality' (high compression) setting?" I guess I'm trying to figure out what the relationship is here between compression and DPI of the scan and how they effect each other. For Right now since I have the Pro Version I'm gonna set all these to MRC and Set the DPI for whatever is recommended for the type of scan. If I don't set it to MRC it seems in my mind at this point that I should always set it to "Best Quality" (IE loss-less compression) otherwise isn't the DPI Setting at least less relevant or lacking in it's ability to control image quality if just gonna get compressed out of the file? 

If anyone has thoughts or can point me to a doc to understand this thx.

Installing version 14 or 14.5 of either PP or PPPro on several systems I get this error message and have not been able to find a fix:

PaperPort Image Printer 64-bit.
Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  
A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run.  
Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Have others encountered this problem?

 


Arrange thumbnails by creation date (PP14). (3 Comments)

I like to display my scanned items as thumbnails on the desktop.  I would like to sort them oldest to newest by creation date.  That way when I scan a new item it is added to the end of the desktop and is automatically in the correct order.

However when I try and arrange the items by creation date (either from the toolbar ribbon or from the desktop context menu) it sorts them newest to oldest.  When new items are scanned they are added to the end of the list so are out of order.  I know I can re-scan the list but I really want to store them in forward chronological order.

Is arranging the items from oldest to newest possible?  If so how?

As a realtor who works with tons of pdf files, paperport is my 3rd most important program and of all the programs on my computer by far the most buggy.  I get this error message at least 3 times a year (usually when I absolutely need the program) and the only fix appears to be to refresh the pc.  Simply uninstalling, using the remove program and reinstalling does not fix the issue. If only I could count the number of hours I have lost in my life to deal with this error. Oh, and Technote 6629 doesn't appear to exist and the registry changes in the only other mention of 6629 here doesn't match my pc.  I don't have a Layers folder to delete to fix the error.

What is causing it?  And don't tell me its because its running in XP mode because it isn't.  This has been happening for at least the last 3 versions of the program.  I foolishly keep upgrading hoping it goes away, but never does.

Can you tell I'm frustrated and wish I could find another program to manage pdf files?

Problems with Image View in Paperport 14 (Win 7) (5 Comments)

I haven't seen anyone else mentioning this specific problem, but it started yesterday (Mar 17).

I am using Windows 7 x64.

I can scan to a PDF and view the document as a PDF, but I can no longer print to Paperport (from a webpage or from MS Word) and I can no longer open the document in Image View mode to edit it.  The thumbnail on the Desktop view does not show a preview of the document, it just shows a broken PDF icon.

Any help would be appreciated.  I have restarted my computer multiple times, I have uninstalled and re-installed with the same issues, and two separate anti-virus programs have found no malware.

In PP14, if a pdf file, with color pages, is autostraightened or autocropped via 'Set' tools, the color pages become greyscale.  Is there a toggle/setting to prevent this?  I have searched all over the product, docs, and here on the web, but no clue.

 

To others with this issue, I do have a clumsy work-around.  'Break' the pdf with Acrobat into individual page image files, then use PP14 on the individual page files for autostraighen/crop.  Then recombine into pdf.  Clumsy!

Hello,

I am using PDF Viewer Plus SE 7.2. I got it on a CD which was included with my Xerox Printer (Workcentre 6015).

I now have the following error message when I start PDF Viewer 7.2 :

updatingthesystem registryfailed.Try usingREGEDIT

I tried to uninstall and reinstall PDF Viewer but I still got this message. I also tried to disable my antivirus software, but it doesn't change anything. I still get this error message.

I would be very thankful if you could tell me how to fix this problem. Do not hesitate to ask me for more information about my system. Thanks a lot in advance !

PP 14 - Annotation text microscopic on subsequent pages (1 Comment)

When using the annotation feature to add text, then copying and pasting that "annotation text" to subsequent pages within the document, the type comes out microscopic. 

This happens on my HP Pavillion x2 - 10t Touch Laptop running windows 8.

When PP is launched the screen shows PP is being launched under windows Xp compatibility mode please uncheck

 compatibility box because it might cause errors. However the compatibility box is not checked.

This issue was addressed  with by a PP tech and worked for 2 days. Reg files were deleted. Now the problem has resurfaced.

What next.

Very frustrating. Was a big fan of Nuance but will be looking for new product to replace

tried uninstall and load all files onto external drive. This seems to work at least for now

The program PaperPort 14 still gif problems in W10. After re-installation the program may crash or is not responding. I had several contacts with customer service and there appears to be no solution. According to control program CheckPPFolders I would get all the excel files and they had to be moved because this is the problem. This is too crazy for words. The program functioned in Win 7 and 8 problem-free so why would that in Win 10 now no longer be the case? 

 

I will look now for a program that works.

Unable to Install Paperport 14 in Windows 7 Prof because I am required to remove Paperport software which I cannot locate. This was after I had used Windows  and Perfect Uninstaller to remove the previous version. It appears thereis some hiidden trace of Paperport which I cannot find.

   Unfortunately, I am unable to take a screenshot on the Apple keyboard on the Windows(Boot Camp) side of my MacBook Pro.

PaperPort Pro 14.5 is still buggy as piece of *** even with Patch 1.

Step to reproduce bug on Windows 8/8.1/10 systems:

1. Run PDF Create Assistant

2. Click the Add button and select the "Open file..." option, "Open" dialog will appear

3. Click "Cancel" button in "Open" dialog to close it

4. Press the [X] button to close the PDF Create Assistant

Right after that PDF Create Assistant immediately crashes.
