Why Doesn't Nuance Release a Newer Version of Paperport? Version 14 is FOUR Years Old! (1 Comment)

Version 14 is over FOUR years old, and why wouldn't Nuance release a newer version? I still to this day receive emails about Paperport 14 "specials." I wish that they would either support the program, or sell it off to someone who would.


Send To Options problem with default TXT editor (1 Comment)

I've added a link to a text editor ("Edit Pad Pro") to my Send To bar. This editor is my Windows default for *.TXT files.

But when I try to use it with a TXT file, I get the message "Unable to Send...program link does not accept this type of item".

When I try to open the same TXT file with Send To Notepad, it works fine...except that the file of course opens in Edit Pad Pro, my system default for TXT.

As far as I can tell, I've set up my Send To Options for Edit Pad Pro identically to Notepad. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

OP Ult (19), with PP 14, Windows 8.1.  OP install appears OK.  Initial PP install produced "PaperPort has stopped working" error msg.   Tried several remedies, none worked, so finally Uninstalled PP, rebooted, and Reinstalled.

Upon attempting to start PP, now getting Error Msg "PaperPort appears to be running Windows XP Compatibility... see Technote 6629"

Alas, PP is NOT running in Win XP mode - although did try manually setting it to XP Mode (& then Win 7 mode), in hopes that Setting Compatibility and then Reversing it would "Fix" the issue.

It has not.  

Along the way, have tried "Repair", Run as Admin, Changing DEP settings, running the Win 8 Compatibility Test.

FWIW, systems says it is running PaperPort File Version 14.5.13205.1029, as Product Version 14.5.

OH: Also read something along lines that "certain security settings may automatically impose Windows XP Compatibility," but with no mention as to WHICH Security settings, OR what to do about it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Paperport 14 Standard fails to apply updates

Had to reinstall PP14 from CD and all went well, everything works as it should except updates. The update manager is advising a software update patch 1 BEFIGSD needs to be applied, The patch downloads, goes through the installation process and advises it has completed all OK, nothing appears to have failed in the install. However, I am prompted to do the same install time and time again so clearly it is not working.

I have turned off antivirus, spyware etc to ensure this is not causing any conflicts when installing but still get the same result. Run out of ideas now of what to do check. Anyone have some ideas what might be the problem?

Cloning hard drive--do I need to uninstall and reinstall after the cloning? (3 Comments)

I want to increase my hard drive size and will be cloning my C: drive.  Do I need to uninstall PP PRO 14.5 first or will the installation carry over to the new drive?

Using PP 14.5 Prof - today when I opened Paperport every document gives me this message after opening in ImageView. It won't allow any editing of any kind. None of the files are password protected or encrypted and it's happening to all files. New, old whether printed to ScanSoft or dropped into PP manually. Any ideas?

I just bought a Magic Wand Scanner that included this software.  I went to the website as instructed and entered the User ID and Password in the appropriate boxes.  Then it takes me to the page where I should be able to download the software BUT when I click the Download button, nothing happens?  Any ideas?

Is there a link I can use to download the PaperPort 14 Standard software for re-installation on a PC? I do not have the CD/DVD, but have the original serial number. The downloads link under PaperPort support is dead and goes to an error page.

Found an very simple solution (other than Lucion File Center) to this firm-wide problem after migrating to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit machines (Dell Vostro 330s, All in Ones) from XP-Pro machines. Try running PP14 in Compatibilty Mode, Vista Service Pack 3.  After many hours invested wording searches in every which way imaginable over the last several months, I hit on a thread from a woman, forgive me for not saving your name, that was so elegant, yet powerful. Thank-you!!!  Now, my merry band of users are indeed merry and have said I need to give something back to the cyber world for all the good we have received over the years. Also, we now love PP almost as much as we have over at least 10 years. No crashes, no problems, no hangs over several weeks. And better yet, no more worthless Bangalore support calls!

In earlier released versions Paperport worked.

But In the RTM version ( 240 ) Paperport 14 freezes and has to be killed via Task Manager.

Yes I tried Compatability Mode right off the bat.

No help.

Has anyone got it to work in Windows 10 version 240?

Biggest problem is that there is no newer version so I can't upgrade or anything.

Anyone know of another document management program similar to Paperport?

Problem with Fujitsu fi-7160 scanner in PP 14.5

Win 7, PP14.5 (14.5   (14.5.15168.1450) with patch Build ID PP-1308-011-15264.1200, Fujitsu fi-7160, USB 3.0.

I did not realize it but the 7160 scanner (uses USB3.0) had been functioning with the TWAIN drivers for the previous model (6130Z, USB2.0) .  Once Fujitsu had me run a patch, the 7160 was FLYING through 2-sided scans using their PaperStream Capture software/drivers. I ran the scanner in PP14.5 like before and it flew through the stack at about 1 page per second double-sided, but at about 40-60 pages, I receive an error message from PP while it is processing the data:

PaperStream IP

An anomaly has occurred during communication.  Make sure that the power is on and the cable is firmly connected.  (Code: DS41003)

 

Then another error message:

PaperStream IP

Communication failed.  Make sure the power is on, the cable is firmly connected, and the scanner is not used by another application.  Note that some scanners may turn off automatically.  In case the scanner is turned off, turn the power back on and then try again.  (Code: DS42019)

 

Then I receive a PP error message:

Unable to communicate with the scanning device.

 

Now, my workarounds are to either scan small numbers of pages at a time, then add more, or I can use the PaperStream Capture program , selecting the output to be in a folder in the PaperPort folders, and then move it the file where I want for it to be. 

Has anyone had this problem and solved it?

I am using Paperport 12 SE that I got with my Brother printer some 3 years ago or so. It comes with PDF Viewer Plus.

Now, I use PDF Viewer Plus as my default PDF viewer because I like it way more than any of the common ones like Foxit or Adobe.

However, recently I came across a PDF that gives me the above error when I try and open it. Now, it opens just fine with the Foxit PDF viewer, but I need to be able to open it with PDF Viewer Plus.

Now, I was thinking that maybe I just need to update my Paperport 12 SE, or the PDF Viewer Plus, but I can't seem to figure out where to download any updates for either one. I click the "Get latest updates" button on paperport, but it doesn't do anything. I have also registered my product on this site, and looked around, and I cannot seem to find anywhere that it will let me update Paperport or PDF Viewer Plus.

However, perhaps the problem isn't updating? Maybe it's something else? If so, what could it be, and how would I go about fixing the problem?

 Upgraded from Paper Port 9 to 14, but having a problem with Form Typer.  On 9, you could just place text anywhere on a a document.  I can't seem to figure out how to do the same on 14.  With many documents having blank fields, this is a major problem  Thanks for any help.

PaperPort Pro 14.5 Patch 1 not downloading (Error 404) (17 Comments)

I have a notification from the Software Manager that PaperPort Professional 14.5 Patch 1 is available.  When I try to either install or download it, it stalls on the "Preparing to download" screen for several minutes then gives the following message "Setup cannot continue because of the following error: An internet communication error occurred. Error Code: 404 Please contact the software vendor or try again at a later time." I've tried this on two separate computers and networks, and it didn't work on any of them.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks!

PaperPort 2014 does not recognize Outlook 2013 as default mail client (2 Comments)

Whenever I open PaperPort Professional 2014 I get the following pop up error; "Either there is no default client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client." It has been doing this for a long time, but I've just moved past it and ignored it. It doesn't stop the program from working ... it's just simply annoying. One additional item that may be needed is I'm running a fully updated 64 bit version of Windows 7. It is ONLY Nuance programs that do not recognize Outlook 2013 as my default mail client on my computer.

I have scanned all of the Nuance Support and have taken the time to try any solution that even remotely looked like it would work including adding a Mail section to the win.ini file, renaming exmapi and  ccMail files in program directory and running the Control Panel Mail app to set the default. None of the solutions even for older versions has worked. I tried to submit a support ticket but it lists all of my Nuance programs as unsupported even though I'm on the most recent version of PaperPort. With customer service like this, I guess I'll simply have to find a new product.

I would appreciate any suggestions to fix this problem or recommendations as a replacement.
