Paperport 14 Standard fails to apply updates

Had to reinstall PP14 from CD and all went well, everything works as it should except updates. The update manager is advising a software update patch 1 BEFIGSD needs to be applied, The patch downloads, goes through the installation process and advises it has completed all OK, nothing appears to have failed in the install. However, I am prompted to do the same install time and time again so clearly it is not working.

I have turned off antivirus, spyware etc to ensure this is not causing any conflicts when installing but still get the same result. Run out of ideas now of what to do check. Anyone have some ideas what might be the problem?
