This is not a question but rather an answer to a question I discovered on my own.

The error, while related to PaperPort, is not a problem with PaperPort but is an issue in Windows. PaperPort requires Visual C++ (32-bit version) to function. When I switched my operating system from Windows 7, 32-bit, to Windows 7, 64-bit, the problem reared its ugly head and I spent a couple of days researching to find the answer.

One thing you should know: there are 2 "flavors" or versions of Visual C++ redistributable package 2010 for Windows. One is for 32-bit operating systems and the other is for 64-bit operating systems: vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe respectively. (vcredist = Visual C++ redistributable, _x86.exe is for 32-bit, _x64.exe is for 64-bit) Now more than once I repaired/reinstalled Visual C++ 64-bit version and still got the same error on PaperPort startup: "mfc100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling." I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling PaperPort. I knew that wasn't the problem because I have other Nuance programs/applications that are functioning with the Visual C++ 64-bit version. Much searching on the Internet did not return any results which directly answered the question. I came to the conclusion that PaperPort requires the 32-bit version of Visual C++ to function. So I went ahead and installed it and ‘Voila! Problem solved. You can download the 32-bit version of Visual C++ redistributable package 2010 for Windows here:

I hope this saves somebody some time and trouble because I know I've wasted enough time on my own figuring out the problem.

Cheers!
